A peaceful Saturday Morning?

The trouble maker himself!  :)
Yesterday morning started off pretty quiet for a Saturday.   No one was in a big hurry to get up. No major plans for the day.  No one really had to be anywhere to do anything.  The perfect kind of day when you can just relax and be together as a family right?
Around 8:00 we all sat down to breakfast, and were talking about various things and just enjoying a day off together.  When Doug looked out the window that faces the south end of our farm.  We all noticed when he quickly turned around and looked again.  Jumped up, said "OH NO!" :) , and ran to the back door to put his shoes on. He was out the door before the rest of us could get up.
I looked out the window in the direction he was looking just a few seconds before and much to my surprise. (insert disgust! :)) The cows were out. Why?  Because the above horse LOVES to chase them.  They DON'T like this and so they ran THROUGH the electric fence to get away from said horse!  UGH!  So much for relaxing.  Before I knew it the 3 girls were up , had jumped into Dad's truck and were down the road to help.
Now to give you an idea of just how far. Our house is in the northeast corner of an 80 acre field.  The cows were running to the south east corner. As far as the east is from the west.  If you are a christian this is a good thing when Jesus talks about it in the Bible.  If you are a family chasing after cows this is NOT a blessing!  Can I get an Amen? :)
At any rate, the cows ended there little run in the neighbors pasture across the road.  Doug caught up with them there, and the girls parked the truck on top of a hill with the hazzards  on to warn any unsuspecting traveler of our bovine fiasco!  The cows were herded back to our place and  the horse removed from the company of the cows.
Oh! How does the horse get to the cows in the first place. Well, he has learned to open the gate!  So there will need to be some fixing so that this doesn't occur again. Which it will.  It always does.  Thankfully today it happened when the whole family was here!  :)
And that was our exciting Saturday morning at the Whitaker farm.  I'm sure we were all quite a sight!  Nothing like going from completely calm and serene to "HURRY UP BEFORE THEY GET HIT ON THE ROAD!"   Ever been there?? :) :)   Never a dull moment!
Have a wonderful Sunday. Thanks for visiting.

  1. Love your story of the Cows and Crazy Horse! Sorry though that it interrupted your restful Saturday! I would have loved to have sat back and watched it all.
