The Emergency Room.

The Emergency Room is never a place you want to visit. Especially with one of your children. This afternoon we took Dan.  He has never done anything deserving of the honor of visiting the E.R.....until today.   All week we have been working on cleaning up the farm.  Today we were moving some old cement and rocks from alongside the barn to be replaced by a couple inches of rocks for drainage purposes.   Well since some were pretty heavy and half burried Doug was pulling the rocks out and tossing them behind him. This made it easy for helpers to pick them up and throw them in the giant dumpster now occupying our back yard.   (Can you see where this is going?)  Dan went to pick up one of the bigger rocks just as Doug was tossing back another catching Dans hand/ finger in between.  Doug realizing what happened immediately scooped him up, assessed the situation, decided it would need some stitches, (from the amount of blood pouring out), and we were off to Pekin.
This is actually the first I've seen this.  (Was afraid to look in the E.R. for fear of not being able to remain upright, and thus be unable to carry out mommy duties!)

It is amazing how much better this little guy felt after a few numbing shots.

An Xray, some cleaning, trimming, a tetanus shot, and 6 stitches later
The doctor put in 6 stitches, some through the nail to hold it on.  It will eventually fall off, but he wanted to keep the nail bed covered to give it a better chance to heal.
The numbing shot still hadn't worn off yet.
After we left the hospital we picked up Sarah.  She had just returned to Pekin an hour earlier.  She has been on her senior trip for the past 10 days to the East coast. (New York, Boston, Washington DC.) We were especially happy to have our girl back with us again after a very long time!  Dan decided he was hungry and Sarah said she hadn't eaten much real food since she left. So we had supper at Cracker Barrel which is always great! (Thus the picture of the shark hat biting Dan's head.:))
So it was a wonderful ending to a not so perfect evening.  But this little boy has quite a story to tell when he returns to school. He was already amazing our waitress, who was so amazed that she gave him a free dip of ice cream with lots of chocolate syrup.  You can't do much better than that as a reward for being brave!      ~Hope your evening was uneventful.  Thanks for visiting! Good Night! :)
