Silage Hay Baling

Step 1 cut what you are baling. (This happens to be rye.)
This past week Sam and Doug baled rye hay. You can use this process with anything this is just what we had growing. The reason for silage baling is that you can bale it when its still wet.  The hay has more nutrition in it. The cows like it better, according to Sam the cow man. Wrapping it keeps it from rotting and molding. It ferments. Its good forever (not actually sure how long forever is), but as soon as you open the wrap (and the air reaches it), the cows need to eat  it within about a week.
Step 2 Use the silage baler to make round bales.

Step 3 prepare Wrapper for bales.

Step 4 Line up wrapper with bale.

Step 5 Lift bale onto wrapper.

Step 6 Wrap.

Done.  They look like giant marshmallows. A pretty simple process.

Caleb wanting to help. : )

Meanwhile, back at the barn....these 3 unloaded a bunch of hay all by themselves without being asked and surprised their Dad.  : ) Great job guys!
It was a busy morning.  Doug and the kids got alot of things crossed off the list.  And the very spoiled cows will be able to eat like kings for another day. Thus, allowing us to eat well in the future. : ) ~thanks for visiting!
