Planting!!!!! :)

Today  is a good day for the Whitaker Farm!  We got to plant something! And that something is popcorn!  Doug went out and planted 145 acres today, April 30th , 2011.  He started at about noon and finished 7:30 tonight. And Praise the Lord it did not rain, all the machinery held together and everything is once again right with the world! (*big sigh*)  Here he is pictured with his 2010 16 row JD  planter. Complete with Precision Planting eSets and 20/20 SeedSense monitor. 30 inch row spacing. Pulled by a JD 4955.  (This is one of Grampa Dwight's fields by the way.)  An interview with Doug revealed that this is the latest he could recall starting planting in the last 20 years.  He also thought the earliest he had ever started planting was April 4.  The weather for the coming week looks somewhat favorable for more planting to occur.  Time will tell, and God knows exactly what we need and the time we need to do it in.  A very comforting thought!  :)
