What we did on our Spring Break (Part 1)

On March 28 the kids had their Spring Break! We began with ALOT of work., and ended it with a really fun trip that took us across 3 states.

You may be thinking: "What on earth does a chicken have to do with Spring Break?  To begin our break we had a few girls over from school and some cousins. While they were here all the chickens got loose. So all the girls graciously offered to catch them and put them back.

It was quite comical to watch the round up! :)

Next we decided to paint Olivias room.

We went from a dark blue to a pretty light yellow. (my most favorite color by the way.) My painters did a great job. Besides this they cleaned out the furnace room, the sewing closet, the garage, and helped cook food and pack for our trip! Wow! I think they were happy to get back to school to have a break from the work at home! :)

OK...Onto the fun part of the week.First we left Thursday night and drove as far as Crawfordsville, IN. We stayed in a really nice Hampton Inn there. The young girl who checked us in let us all stay in the same room. (If you've ever traveled with a big family, this is a BIG deal not to have to get 2 rooms! It was huge!

To make it even better, this was the view outside our room! (Doug was equally as excited as the boys about this!)  :)

In the morning (after breakfast, which was also included in the price of the room.Very nice!), the kids went swimming. Tip: When you swim first thing in the morning there generally is never anyone else there. Which was the case today. So 8 Whitakers + 1 good size pool  all to themselves= alot of fun!  :)

Always good to have sisters!

Our chauffeur on this trip! (And GPS of course!)

Suckers make everything better!
Even when you are 19!!!!! :) :)

Neat picture.

This is the hotel we stayed at in Ohio. We were on the 17th floor. It was the tallest building we had ever been in I think.

This is part of our room. It had 2 bedrooms, a small kitchen, dining room, and living room. We really didn't need all this room, but when I made the reservation back in the beginning of January this was the only room left for us out of 3 motels. So we took it! We we're directly across the street from the convention center where the homeschool conference was being held.  Oh yeah! Did I mention that was the main reason for the trip to Ohio? :)    Also notice in both our hotel pix the Whitakers are glued to the TV?  :) They were quite amazed by broadcast TV! :)

Jake checking out the view from 17 floors up.

Did I mention that he's all boy?  :)
Coming into oHIo.  (get it?..high in the middle and round on the ends?...Sorry, couldn't help myself.)  :)

The view. Em tells me this bridge was constructed near the end of the 1800s, and at one time was the longest in the world. It was also used as the prototype for the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

another view

This was inside our hotel in the main lobby.

Ummm....It's water !!

Doug's reaction after he realized he opened the $4.00 water! :)

This was one of the ballrooms inside the Duke Energy center where the convention was held.

Kids waiting patiently. :)

Well that was the end of our first full day in Ohio. It had been quite an experience for us by this time. After this we went back to the motel, and everyone was happy to sleep. That night there was a thunderstorm. Which was really neat at 17 floors up!   Coming up next...Part 2 of our exciting adventure into the big city!  We went to the creation museum and saw the Duggars! Tune in tomorrow!

  1. Dear Whitaker Family . . . love the photos!!! I am SO jealous that you all got to see the Duggar family!!! I think they are awesome!

Love Doug's expression about the water! Katelyn, Sarah, Grandma & Grandpa ran into that on their trip up to Schaumburg. Yikes!!!

Can't wait to read part II!

    God Bless
